WORK PACKAGE I

Carbon sequestration in forests under climate change

The research in this working package is focusing on changes in CO2 fixation in phytomass of plantation and close-to-nature forests under climate change conditions and the consequences for both volume production and wood quality. Despite research efforts in this field there is still a substantial lack of information on tree growth and wood quality under conditions of climate change. In this context the differences and potential analogies of plantation forests compared to close-to-nature forests are particularly unclear. The defined tasks will close gaps in our knowledge about climate change effects and will provide us with the necessary information to fulfil our overarching objective: The estimation of carbon fixation in the phytomass of forest trees under variable climatic conditions.
