WORK PACKAGE II

Managing carbon emissions from forests and forest operations

This work package is concentrating on questions around the disposal of climate relevant gases through forest management practices and which strategies might be used to minimize this footprint. The first set of questions addresses carbon and climate relevant gas emissions in forest operations. This includes the comparison of standard operations versus climate risk induced operations after disturbances such as wind throw or fire damage. Also covered is a comparison of the impact of forest operations on climate emissions in close-to-nature versus the plantation forests. In the second set of questions, the rising risk of higher CO2 emissions after climate induced threats will be observed.
